Points to remember when choosing to use Barrier machines in a Clean-Room-Laundry.

Clean-Room-Laundry Barrier machines are used where total separation between the soiled laundry and the clean laundry is a requirement.

This may be because of dust in a clean factory environment such as the electronics industry, or where radio active dust particles may be the soiling, or in the health care world for surgical garments and dressings.

The main use is in the health industry where garments and bedding are to be kept sealed and separate from the incoming soiled laundry.

The machines are normally fitted with rubber seals into appertures in the wall between the clean and dirty areas.

And maybe with the use of pressurised air conditioning systems in the clean area with air locks for entry and exit.

Most barrier machines are based on the proprietory brands, which are built with special and normally very expensive modifications to the drums to allow a porthole into the drum so that the machine can be opened via a side entrance to allow the placement of dirty laundry.

With the main porthole and door in the clean portion of the room for the laundry to be removed.

These machines frequently cost more than twice the cost of a similar size machine with a single opening, which is why most laundry operations try to get round it in other ways. Or even change the specification when the full cost is realised.

The main use for barrier machines is for the control of infection regulations, where very dangerous organisms are being removed from soiled laundry. This system allows complete audited control of infection with the use of printed labels for each batch if necessary.

Clean-Room-Laundry systems are normally programmable machines with automatic liquid dosing pumps which bring the whole process under management control.

A full audit trail is available where required. This data can be stored on disc or PC, via cables or blue tooth wireless communications and can also provide a printed label for each wash load to aid the audit trail.
